Clients are referred to Occupational Therapy Outpatient Services at the Misericordia Community Hospital and Health Centre for specialized services including:
Orthopaedic Conditions
Rheumatological Conditions
Repetitive Strain Injuries
Neurological Conditions
Burns
Dysphagia
Pediatrics
Goals of therapy vary according to each patient's unique problems and needs. This requires an individualized approach to therapy involving a customized treatment plan following a thorough assessment by an Occupational Therapist.
Common goals are an attempt to achieve maximum independence in daily living by relieving pain, increasing range of motion, increasing strength, preventing or correcting physical disability and teaching the use of adaptive equipment and aids.
Common Modalities used:
Clients are often provided with individualized home programs which are designed so that responsibility for functional ability and independence resides with the client.
Appointment times are available five days a week for 0800 to 1530.
