Occupational Therapy Inpatient Services

Goals of Treatment

The primary goal of inpatient treatment is to improve patients' independence level re: , activities of daily living skills, and to facilitate a coordinated and seamless transition back into the community.

Patients who require further rehabilitation in Occupational Therapy upon discharge can attend therapy as outpatients.

Modalities used

  • Cognitive Assessment
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) assessment and training
  • Assessment for equipment needs
  • Splinting
  • Therapeutic exercise programs
  • Coronary teaching including stress management, ADL progression and activity progression home program, energy conservation
  • Wound care including pressure offloading, compression therapy, and diabetic teaching
  • Swallowing assessment and video fluoroscopy
  • Education on energy conservation and joint protection
  • Heat or cold therapy
  • Education of family and caregivers

Interdisciplinary Team

For patients who have multiple or complex needs, access to other rehabilitation professionals including audiology, physiotherapy, respiratory therapy, andspeech-language pathology are also available to met their needs.
