This workshop will explore qualitative research methods as a way to address clinical questions and issues, by establishing an understanding of the purpose and nature of qualitative research and some of the main research traditions and methods, such as ethnography, grounded theory and phenomenology.We will apply some of the main data collection and analysis principles using audio-visual data.
Judith Spiers, RN, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta. She received her undergraduate education in New Zealand, her Master of Nursing from the UofA; and her PhD (Nursing) at the University of California, San Francisco. She completed a three year postdoctoral appointment at the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (UofA) and is now an IIQM Affiliate Scholar.
Her primary research interests include exploring the experiences of people living with chronic and hidden illness, and health professional-patient interaction/communication. These topics require a combination of experiential (reported) information and observational information.
