About HREB

The Health Research Ethics Board (HREB) is a joint committee of the University of Alberta Health Sciences Faculties, Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health. There are two Health Research Ethics Board Panels.

Biomedical Panel (invasive interventions and invasive measures)
Health Panel (non-invasive interventions)

Both panels have approximately 20 representatives, including members from the Health Sciences Faculties, Alberta Health Services, the Covenant Health and other professions. The panels use the following guidelines for making decisions:

TriCouncil Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans
Health Canada's Good Clinical Practice Guidelines: Consolidated Guideline of the International Council of Harmonisation adopted by the Therapeutic Products Directorate.

HREB Fees

HREB does charge a one-time fee for reviewing Clinical Trials (doc)
