How Do I...

Becoming a Volunteer

Each year our volunteers who have contributed over 100,000 volunteer hours and fundraise hundreds of thousands of dollars. Reach out and make a difference. Join our team and be part of the success.

Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteers participate in a rewarding and challenging working environment. It is our mission to provide patients and residents with superior care and services and it would be impossible to achieve this mission without the patience and dedication of our volunteers. In return for their valuable contributions to our organization, volunteers enjoy the satisfaction of helping others and lifting the spirits of patients and residents. In addition, volunteers experience personal development opportunities through coaching, seminars and support from colleagues and patients. Students can gain valuable knowledge and skills that can be later applied to a career in the healthcare industry.

Volunteer Requirements

Our goal is to maintain a centre of excellence for our patients. To ensure we can consistently provide our patients with superior care, we require that all volunteers meet several requirements before they can work in one of our three healthcare facilities. Prior to being accepted as a volunteer, you will be required to:
  • Be over 13 years of age. Special consideration may be given to individuals under the age of 13. In some circumstances, parental participation may be encouraged when children volunteer at the hospital.
  • Attend a volunteer information session.
  • Complete an application form.
  • Provide two references and/or reference letters (if possible) from an employer, volunteer supervisor, teacher or co-worker.
  • Provide a current immunization record for mumps, measles and rubella vaccinations (if born after 1970) that includes a tuberculosis test and proof of mumps, measles and rubella vaccinations.
  • Set up an interview time with a member of Volunteer Services.
  • Complete a Criminal Record Check that is processed through Volunteer Services.
  • Make a commitment to volunteering with Caritas Health Group.
