Misericordia Pain Clinic
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, and Fibromyalgia, are some of the many conditions that cause chronic and debilitating pain. The Misericordia Pain Clinic can help you cope with your pain through medication management and treatments such as nerve blocks, acupuncture, hypnosis, some physiotherapy, and referrals to other pain management professionals.

Misericordia Obstetrics Program
The Obstetrical Department at the Misericordia Community Hospital provides care to mothers and babies before, during and after birth. Care is offered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis by obstetricians, family practitioners, anesthetists, neonatologists and pediatricians.

Physiotherapy Program
Aches and pains got you down? Misericordia Physiotherapy can help get your life back on track! Whether you've had a recent surgery or you have an acute injury or an ongoing problem, our therapists can work with you to assess and treat your condition. A doctor's referral is not required for physiotherapy treatments.

iRSM
iRSM offers reconstruction and rehabilitation to patients with defects of the head and neck as a result of birth defects, cancer, infections and trauma. iRSM 's work combines surgery, implants with facial & oral prostheses and rehabilitation to patients who require replacement of absent or lost tissue.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit
The Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit is a real life example of Covenant Health's commitment to being of greater service to those in need. Hyperbaric Oxygen is a medical treatment that uses 100% pure oxygen in pressurized chambers to enhance healing and treat a variety of complex disorders.

ALS Clinic
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive and ultimately fatal neuromuscular disease. ALS affects the nerves that send messages from the brain to the voluntary muscles. As nerve cells degenerate, the muscles weaken and become nonfunctional.

Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory Therapy is a key player in the multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis, treatment, education, and promotion of well-being for patients with cardio-pulmonary and associated disorders. Patient care is provided by Registered Respiratory Therapists on a 24 hour, 7 day per week basis.Some examples of our clinical role include:• Patient assessment and follow-up • Sophisticated physiological monitoring • Ventilator and airway management • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy • Medical gas administration • Home care treatment planning

Child Asthma Education Clinic
The goals of the Asthma Education Clinic are: to provide information on the child and their family that will help them to manage their asthma more effectively, to decrease the number of urgent visits to the child's family physician, the emergency department and the hospital, to help the child be as symptom-free as possible.

Adult Asthma Care Clinic
Patients are seen in a one-on-one informal atmosphere; adults with asthma learn about the pathophysiology of asthma and what causes an asthma attack, medications for asthma and their proper use, environmental asthma triggers and trigger avoidance, how to track the progress of their asthma with a peak flow meter and home symptom monitoring with an asthma diary; breathing tests or pulmonary function testing, as well as a complete respiratory assessment and asthma education, are performed by a respiratory therapist. All information is communicated back to the family physical for continuing follow-up of asthma care.

Therapeutic Services
Therapeutic Programs and Services at the Misericordia Community Hospital and Health Centre is a unique combination of professional disciplines consisting of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Respiratory Therapy, Speech/Language Pathology and Audiology.

Occupational Therapy
The primary role of Occupational Therapy is to restore, maintain, or improve functional abilities and capacities of referred clients. Occupational Therapists work with clients to determine outcomes in terms of what can be reasonably expected in areas of self-care, work, and leisure. Occupational Therapists utilize unique and customized approaches to adapt the environment and to teach additional skills required for independent functioning at home and at work.As part of the Rehabilitation team, Occupational Therapy offers direct care programs and services and is managed within the umbrella of Therapeutic Services.

Audiology
"Audiology" is the study of hearing and hearing related disorders. An Audiologist is a "hearing health care professional" who identifies and assesses individuals with auditory (hearing) and/or balance concerns, problems or disorders. Rehabilitation of hearing loss can be administered by an Audiologist through fitting of hearing aids and/or Assistive Listening Devices (ALD's). Audiologists can assist the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) physician in identifying certain pathologies of the ear and auditory system but Audiologists cannot diagnose the individual's cause of hearing impairment.

Speech Language Pathology
Speech Language Pathologists at the Misericordia Community Hospital provide consultation, assessment, treatment and counseling to ADULT inpatients and outpatients with communication and swallowing difficulties.

Northern Alberta Continence Service - Urodynamics Testing
Northern Alberta Continence is a community outreach program at the Misericordia Community Hospital that provides assessment and treatment for people with chronic incontinence. The Urodynamics Clinic offers a service tht diagnoses and treats individuals with insufficient bladder control.

Healing Connections
Caritas Health Group's vision is to serve people with respect, dignity and compassion. Healing Connections is a program at the Misericordia Community Hospital that helps to fulfill this vision for women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer and require support immediately prior to and after surgery.

Wound Care Program
The Wound Care program exemplifies the Caritas core value of restoring people to wholeness. The program helps to improve chronic wound healing rates, reducing amputations and disabilities, thus greatly improving the quality of life for those served.

P.A.R.T.Y. Program
The P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) Program is an injury prevention and health promotion program targeted at teens, specifically grade nine students in Edmonton and surrounding areas.

Lithotripsy
Lithotripsy is a non-surgical treatment of kidney stones that uses shock waves to break down calcium deposits in the kidney. The Misericordia's Lithotripsy program began in 1989. The lithotripsy therapeutic equipment – called a lithotripter – was one of the first units of its kind in North America.

Bed Wetting and Bed Soiling Clinic
Misericordia Community Hospital's comprehensive services in Child Health include clinics on Bed Wetting (Enuresis) and Bed Soiling (Encopresis) – the only clinics of their kind in Western Canada.

Edmonton Breastfeeding Clinic
The Edmonton Breastfeeding Clinic is dedicated to helping families meet their breastfeeding goals.

Child Neurodevelopmental and Behavioural Disorders
Caritas Health Group's continuing commitment to community-supported child health services is evident at the Child Neurodevelopmental Clinic at the Misericordia Community Hospital. The Clinic offers assessment and treatment options for children who have ongoing learning, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Child Health Clinic
At the Misericordia Community Hospital, a busy Child Health Clinic offers an effective model for community health promotion. Established in 1997, the clinic tackles many childhood health challenges that tax the resources of the community and impact the day-to-day life of families.

Pediatric Environmental Health
The Pediatric Environmental Health Unit is one of the specialized Child Health Clinics at the Misericordia Community Hospital. The Unit is the first of its kind in Canada, and has a special focus on preventative health care through its education, advocacy and research initiatives.
