Each week, two classes of students from around the city visit the Misericordia Community Hospital to learn how to make informed choices about activities and risky behaviour. The P.A.R.T.Y. Program is about making smarter choices that will save lives.
The full day in-house program consists of slide and video presentations, role-playing and demonstrations by emergency room nurses, police offices and paramedics. These professionals volunteer their time to talk to students about their roles, experiences, and frustrations. The program also offers students a unique interaction with injury survivors who speak to students on living life with brain and spinal cord injuries. These survivors don't pull any punches- they just tell it as it is hoping that students will understand the devastating consequences of making risky choices. From using a wheelchair to eating lunch as a quadriplegic, students take part in this interactive program that sends the messages-
