Healing Connections supports women when they first get a diagnosis of breast cancer. The program brings together women with professionals and volunteers who are survivors of breast cancer. They provide both clinical assistance and personal support to help navigate the journey from diagnosis through to surgery, treatment and recovery.
The program runs over a four week period. In a safe and supportive environment, women with breast cancer meet at the Misericordia to have their questions answered, and their concerns listened to in this unique mix of compassionate professionals and volunteers.
Health professionals involved with the program include staff from clinical nutrition, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and nursing. They provide information specific to breast cancer and answer any questions the participants may have.
Healing Connections was born out of a true community need. Staff recognized that while the surgical and rehabilitative care was excellent in the region for patients with breast cancer, support was missing to help women make choices during their treatment. Healing Connections fills that need, and helps find hope for healing by enriching the body, mind and spirit of women diagnosed with breast cancer.
