Neurodevelopmental and behavioural disorders are complex and can affect a child's education, social development and emotional well-being. Over a thousand children are helped each year in the program.
Physicians and a variety of health professionals offer specialized expertise to children and their families.
Team members work closely with the child's family, and any others who have the potential to contribute to the child's assessment, treatment and ongoing well-being, such as schools, public health clinics, community groups and social service agencies. The Child Neurodevelopmental and Behavioural Disorders program also offers treatment options such as:
- Parent Effectiveness Training Groups;
- Adolescent group program;
- School-based group counseling;
- Child social skills training;
- Play therapy;
- Family therapy group; and/or
- Medication.
After an assessment, a comprehensive report is sent to the family and referring physician, highlighting recommendations for parents and teachers. This program serves a need in the community, and connects children to a community of care.
