Child Asthma Education Clinic

The goals of the Asthma Education Clinic are: to provide information on the child and their family that will help them to manage their asthma more effectively, to decrease the number of urgent visits to the child's family physician, the emergency department and the hospital, to help the child be as symptom-free as possible.

Children attending the Asthma Education Clinic must be referred by their family physician.

What happens at the Clinic?

The child is seen by a physician, nurse and a respiratory therapist.

Other team members, including a pediatric allergist and psychologist are seen as needed.

Pulmonary function tests may be done.

Education includes: the nature of the disease, avoiding triggers, symptom tracking and peak flow monitoring, medications and devices

An individual management plan is developed and a complete report and copy of the plan is sent to the referring physician for ongoing management of the child's asthma.
