Risk of Eating Disorder Inventory - REDI
REDI is a 50-item self-report questionnaire to detect children and adolescents at risk of developing an eating disorder. The screen classifies individuals according to their degree of risk (none, low, moderate, high), and the eating disorder behavior they are engaging in (restricting, purging, bingeing). REDI is composed of 8 sub-scales: self esteem, emotional indicators, maladaptive thoughts, body image, dieting, restricting, purging, bingeing. Risk is evaluated based on scores in each, and patterns are examined to better understand profiles of at risk students.

REDI has been validated for grades 5-12 (ages 11-18). It is available for use in hard copy or computerized version. It can be used with individual students identified at risk to collect more information about their concerns (either at school or in the health clinician's office), as a screen for high-risk populations, or to screen entire school populations. Schools and communities might use this information to justify implementation of primary prevention programs such as support groups, self-esteem programs and active living initiatives.

REDI is currently in the trial stage, and the authors are keen to recruit facilities that would like to continue trialing the tool for them. If you are interested in trialing this tool, please contact us using the "contact us" icon on this webpage.
