Liking the Me I See in the Mirror, An Educational Resource Manual for Teachers on Body Image and Self-esteem is a new resource manual designed to help educators teach ways to develop and maintain positive body image. There are six lessons: Introduction to body image, Physical Self, Personal Self, Self-Esteem/Body Image, Self-care, and Perfection versus Excellence. The appendix includes basic information about eating disorders. In addition, the appendix includes a list of written resources, recommended videos, information organisations and web sites. Appropriate for all educators teaching body image (not just school teachers), the target age is grades 4-12. Activities and handouts are provided for all topics discussed. Information can be photocopied from these resources as long as copyright is recognised.
Both resources have been approved as authorized teaching resources with Alberta Learning. References to the Alberta Learning Physical Education Curriculum (2000) are included in the manual.
