It is our hope that you and your loved ones feel welcome and at home at the Edmonton General. Here are a few ideas that can help you settle in:
- Bring in personal items to use and display in your room
- Get to know the residents in your community
- Participate in recreation and social programs
- Encourage your loved ones to get to know families of other residents
Creating your personal space
Bring in personal items that give you a sense of home.
Suggestions include:
- Photographs
- Mementos
- Plants
- An easy chair
- Comforters, bedspreads and lap blankets
- A clock, radio and television
Special considerations: Due to limited space and safety concerns, please discuss with your Resident Care Manager, any large or electrical items you would like to bring in. All electrical items must pass a safety inspection before use.
Feeling comfortable, looking good
Wear clothes that you will be comfortable in and use your favourite toiletries to make sure you feel good. Suggestions include:
- Loose-fitting tops, elastic-waisted pants and back-opening dresses
- Undershirts and warm socks
- Housecoats
- Non-slip shoes
- Combs, brushes, cosmetics, hand mirrors
- Toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, lotions, shampoo
- Razors, nail clippers/files
Identifying your belongings: Please label all of your personal items with your name.
Did you know...?
- You can have your room painted from a select palette of colours. Ask your Resident Care Manager for details and costs.
- Staff will arrange to have your pictures and mementos hung in your room.
- A roof top garden is located on the sixth floor, just opposite the 6Y elevators. The garden is open during the summer. A solarium, located next to the garden, is open year round and is a quiet, peaceful visiting spot.
