"Forget-me-not Gardens" is the name of Unit 10Y, the Cognitive Support Unit at the Edmonton General Hospital. The creative name reflects an innovative program that provides a safe, comforting and supportive environment for residents at risk for wandering unknowingly into unsafe situations. cure.  The unit is a place where residents and families can find peace and calm. 

 

 "Forget-me-not Gardens" boasts a park area designed with plants, an aviary and water fountain to help residents keep close to nature. 

Couches and a fireplace are central to a comfortable family area.  The serene environment and specially trained staff help accommodate residents to settle into their new home. 

 

Research has shown that people with Alzheimer's disease need to live in setting with a sense of peace and purpose. The Cognitive Support Unit is carefully designed with relaxing colour and décor, and staff encourage a flexible daily schedule for each resident.

The interdisciplinary team work together with families to improve the quality of life of their residents.  Families are welcomed as part of the care team, and are an important part of care planning for individual residents. Residents are encouraged to reach their optimum level of their physical, social and intellectual abilities.
