| Sometimes he is Santa Claus. Sometimes he is a shoulder to cry on. Sometimes he is a bread baker, music maker, or chauffer. Whatever role he plays in his volunteer efforts at the Mel Miller Hospice, Hector Marois is a source of strength and comfort for all he meets. |

For the past nine years, Hector, a retired business man, has been a presence in the hospice at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre, extending a hand in welcome and a warm hello to all who enter. He prays with grieving families, plays with restless children, drives patients to appointments, encourages staff, orients other palliative care volunteers and is a friend and listening ear to anyone who needs him. Throughout his 4,755 hours of service with Caritas, Hector has lived the mission with dignity, grace and an open heart.
