Ethics Plays

At Caritas we utilize Ethics plays to help our front-line nurses reflect on how Catholic social teachings and the Catholic ethical framework inherent in our organization guides our decision making processes.

Edmonton Author Katherine Koller

The plays are purposely written to create awareness of everyday ethical dilemmas we face while delivering patient care. In the future the plays will be presented to a variety of front line workers so that the ethical culture of Caritas can be deepened as we deliver our individual services to the public and one another. To date the discussions have been targeted to deepen the exposure of Caritas ethical framework and to highlight the ethical consultation processes available to everyone no matter their professional designation.

The plays have initiated lively discussions on how we as a faith based organization can improve or change our decisions based on the ethical guidelines we promote. In addition the plays and discussion have been very helpful in promoting what one could expect from an Ethics consult as well as the team who complete the consult.
